The Healthy Communities Directorate in BHA is dedicated to promoting health equity and improving health outcomes for marginalised populations across Greater Manchester. Our work encompasses a wide range of conditions that can significantly impact our communities, including tuberculosis (TB), diabetes, smoking-related illnesses, cancer, and hypertension. We engage in various initiatives, such as delivering awareness-raising workshops, organising focus groups, conducting health testing, and actively challenging misconceptions surrounding health issues.
Another crucial aspect of our work involves advocating for change among decision-makers who influence how health services are designed and delivered. We conduct community research to gather insights and perspectives, which we then use to inform local and central government policy. We represent the charity sector within the NHS, ensuring that the voices of marginalised communities are heard and considered in health service planning.
By fostering collaboration and dialogue, we aim to create a more equitable healthcare system that addresses the unique needs of all individuals, ultimately leading to healthier communities across Greater Manchester.
