BHA is excited to announce its collaboration with the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) on a groundbreaking research project aimed at addressing health conditions that disproportionately affect Black communities in the UK. This initiative seeks to engage individuals aged 16 and older from various Black ethnic backgrounds, including Black African, Black Caribbean, and Black British individuals, encouraging them to participate regardless of their current health status. Importantly, individuals with Sickle Cell Disease or Thalassaemia are also welcome to join the study, irrespective of their ethnic backgrounds. Additionally, there is a dedicated program for children aged 15 and under who have been diagnosed with Sickle Cell.
As part of the research, participants will be asked to provide a blood or saliva sample and complete a comprehensive health and lifestyle questionnaire. They will also need to give consent for their data and samples to be matched to specific studies, which will help researchers gain valuable insights into health disparities. Throughout the year, BHA staff will be available to offer information and support at various community events, ensuring that participants feel informed and engaged in the process.
